Overuse.

How do you use social media?

I think the proper term is overuse. I have a phone beside me 24 hours and on the worst day I recall I was over 14 hours on social media. I am retired so I do have the time in between my other activities to do this.

I scroll on and off all day but mostly on. I use X to find out what is happening and I scroll looking for the latest ‘breaking news’. I am getting more interaction from community notes at the moment, than from my 1800 followers, because it’s now impossible to tell the difference between fact and fiction or as Trump would say ‘fake news.’

FaceTime is for my close family and friends and everyday ( since 2019) I write a diary about my day. I try to be honest as to how I’m feeling and what sort of day I’ve had. I post photos of anything that I’ve come across during the day and people I’ve come in contact with. I have a loyal number of followers who interact with my musings.

I find going on the internet is a bit like going down a rabbit hole, one click leads to another click and time passes quickly.

While I wish deep down that social media had never existed I can honestly say that I couldn’t manage without it.

Late night thoughts. 😢

Jot down the first thing that comes to your mind.

I must stop scrolling on X and go to bed. I’ve just been reading about a family in Gaza whom I follow on X and I can’t believe how the people of Gaza and the Lebanon are being treated. Hard to understand how the rest of the world allows Israel to get away with it. Trump is a weak and mentally disturbed President and he allows Netanyahu to carry on with the cruelty he is imposing on innocent families.

My thoughts are with the families tonight.

Que Serra,Serra.

Where do you see yourself in 10 years?

Well as I’m 77 I would think I’ll probably be in a jar on someones sideboard or I’ll be in a nursing home drooling. 🤤

On the other hand I may still be mobile and have all my faculties, in which case I may be a great grandmother. With the amount of medicines available and with everyone living longer, I may just make ten years.

Whatever, I don’t dwell on it. As Doris Day once sang

‘Que Serra Serra, what will be, will be.’

Not too many.

What book could you read over and over again?

There are very few books that I would read more than once. The reason being I like to be kept waiting for the denouement of the story.

However I have read Jane Eyre twice and if I had no other choice I would read it again.

Another that I would read again is The Correspondent by Virginia Adams. I can say without a doubt I was sorry when it was finished as I could have read more.

Ironically the fact that I have held onto the books that I have read makes no sense if I don’t intend to read them again but I can’t bear to part with them. I just like walking into the study and seeing them all.

Not For Me.

What Olympic sports do you enjoy watching the most?

I’m afraid the answer is none. I’ve never enjoyed either watching or playing sports. The Olympics are no different. I complain during the fortnight or however long it goes on for that my favourite programmes get rescheduled.

My last and only time to play a sport was as a member of a staff netball team where believe it or not I scored the winning goal. A fluke!

My school didn’t encourage or promote sporting activities so I had no idea what the attraction was.

I come however from a sport loving family. Husband plays golf as do many of the family. Grandson plays football and son plays badminton but I haven’t been tempted to get involved so no, I don’t have a favourite Olympic sport.
